On Wednesday (October 5), actress Eiza González (Ambulance) officially addressed the online rumors that she was cast to play superhero Elektra in the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+.

“I feel like I’m just gonna get it out of the way because, One I’m confused as for the amount of hate over this and two I feel like it saves people energy,” González tweeted. “No, I’m not cast as Elektra in Daredevil. I have already a[n] ongoing series exclusivity contract to 3 Body Problem. Ur welcome.”

The Three-Body Problem is a sci-fi series for Netflix about humankind’s first contact with aliens.

In a follow-up tweet, González added: “I’d appreciate if I could live free of negative ill intended messages about me playing/stealing? a role that I don’t even know about. Thank you and wishing you all the best.”

Some Daredevil fans online were upset that if the rumors were true, it meant that González could be replacing actress Élodie Yung (The Cleaning Lady) who played Elektra on the original Daredevil series and on The Defenders. Yung has not been confirmed to return for the reboot.

The initial rumors from this past summer stemmed from someone posting on a Reddit forum claiming they had inside information about a few upcoming Marvel projects. One of those projects was about a rebooted Daredevil series allegedly starring González as the love interest of the title character.

Along with The Three-Body Problem, Eiza González will also be seen in the TV series Extrapolations for AppleTV+. She was just cast in the Hulu limited series La Máquina opposite Diego Luna (Andor) and Gael García Bernal (Werewolf by Night).
