Everyone was talking about Encanto Sunday night (March 27) when the Disney film was named the Best Animated Feature at the 94th Annual Academy Awards.

Accepting the award on stage were co-directors/co-producers Jared Bush, Byron Howard and co-producers Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino, who is Mexican-American.

“I am so proud to be a part of a film that puts beautiful, diverse characters in front and center—and that people everywhere are seeing themselves in the film,” Merino said.

Earlier in the evening, the music of Encanto was celebrated with a performance by Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Sebastián Yatra performing the Spanish-language song “Dos Oruguitas.”

During his performance, Yatra wore an outfit covered in butterflies. Two Latine dancers floated across the stage while he sang the beautiful lyrics written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Other Latines were nominated in the Best Animated Film category, including director Carlos López Estrada for Raya and the Last Dragon and producer Phil Lord for The Mitchells vs The Machines.
