Eva Longoria’s 3-year-old son Santi might not be a secret agent like the babies featured in the actresses’ upcoming animated sequel The Boss Baby: Family Business — but Longoria says he can be sneaky when he wants to be.
“Santi was potty training and wanted privacy, so I would close the door,” Longoria told Remezcla during a recent interview. “As soon as I close the door, he’s on the sink and throwing the soap. He’s doing everything but pooping.”
In The Boss Baby: Family Business, Longoria lends her voice to Carol Templeton, the mother of two daughters: 7-year-old Tabitha (Ariana Greenblatt) and infant Tina (Amy Sedaris), a secret agent for BabyCorp.
“Carol is the breadwinner and the CEO of the family,” Longoria says of her enthusiasm for this character. “For me, that is so accurate with all women, but specifically for Latina women. We have our hands in everything and have eyes in the back of our heads. If mom’s not there, the world falls apart.”
In Longoria’s real-world home, keeping everything from imploding includes being the family’s disciplinarian. Luckily, she says she’s been “really blessed with a kid who is kind and sweet” and didn’t even go through the fabled “terrible twos.”
“He’s not this Tasmanian Devil,” she said. “He doesn’t throw tantrums. I haven’t had to flex my boss yet.”
For Longoria, raising a child means thinking about what kind of adult you want them to become. She wants Santi to question things and not automatically settle for social constructs.
“You want them to explore and be curious about the world,” she said. “Go ahead and push back. My son is at the taking-off-the-diaper phase right now, and I’m like, ‘You know, you’ve got a point.’”
So, if Santi were a secret agent at BabyCorp himself, what kind of agent would he be? “He’d be a baby ninja,” Longoria tells us. “He’s so athletic and physical. He’d be jumping off everything.”
The Boss Baby: Family Business debuts at theaters and on Peacock July 2.
