NBC has picked up the comedy TV series Lopez Vs. Lopez, which stars Lopez and his daughter Mayan Lopez. According to Deadline, the show is “a working-class family comedy about dysfunction, reconnection and all the pain and joy in between.”

In October 2021, Lopez Vs. Lopez was picked up by NBC to produce a pilot episode. Apparently, NBC liked what it saw and has now ordered an entire first season. Along with the Lopez duo, Lopez Vs. Lopez stars Selenis Leyva (Orange Is the New Black), Brice Gonzalez (the upcoming Flamin’ Hot) and Matt Shively (Paranormal Activity 4).

The new series comes from the same team that gave audiences The Conners – Bruce Helford and Debby Wolfe. Helford was also the co-creator of George Lopez, Lopez’s sitcom that ran from 2002 to 2007 on ABC.

After George Lopez was canceled after six seasons, it took Lopez a couple of years to get back on TV on a regular basis. He premiered his late-night talk show Lopez Tonight in November 2009. In doing so, he became the first Mexican-American to ever host his own late-night talk show on an English-language network in the United States. The show lasted two seasons.

Lopez then found a home on the TV sitcom Saint George for FX, but that series only lasted one season. It was followed by Lopez, a TV Land sitcom, which lasted two seasons.

Along with his work on TV over the last few years, Lopez has also been keeping busy making movies. One of the two films he starred in last year was No Man’s Land where he played a Texas Ranger on the hunt for a fugitive. Other films he’s credited for in the last couple of years include El Chicano, The Tax Collector and Walking with Herb.

Earlier this year, Lopez was announced as a cast member on the upcoming DC superhero movie Blue Beetle starring Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña in the title role.
