Whether it’s executive producing the upcoming Diary of a Female President show for Disney+ or her voice-over work on Netflix’s animated Carmen Sandiego series, Gina Rodriguez is keeping busy. Now, she’s jumping on board another project.

Rodriguez will play the lead role in Bobbie Sue, a film directed by Drumline’s Charles Stone III, for WarnerMedia’s new streaming service, HBO Max. The film follows the eponymous character, raised in a blue-collar household with four brothers, as she becomes a successful lawyer.

Hired by a snooty law firm, Bobbie Sue comes to realize she was hired more “for optics” than her talent and one of her most powerful clients is covering up the exploitation of their workers. Bobbie Sue will have to take on not just the client, but the law firm that’s given her a job.

In a statement released by producer Donald De Line during the announcement, he praised Rodriguez as an incredible talent known for “bringing rich characters, timely stories and authentic worlds to life.”

Currently, we don’t have much more information about the movie, but given that HBO Max will launch in 2020, we’ll likely start to get more details soon. HBO Max will offer a variety of original series as well as beloved classics, including the 1997 Selena biopic.
