On an upcoming Disney+ show series, Cuban-American middle schooler Elena (Tess Romero) will run for president of the United States in the future. Up to now, we’ve heard little bits and pieces of Diary of a Future President – originally titled Diary of a Female President – but until recently, we didn’t know when the show would premiere. Now, we know it won’t be much longer.

Diary of a Future President premieres on January 17 on the streaming service. The series, which is being executive produced by Gina Rodriguez’s I can and I Will Productions, follows the highs and low of Elena’s life and family. The series will jump to the future, where Rodriguez will play grown-up Elena on the campaign trail.

“I established my production company as a vehicle to tell stories for and by the underrepresented,” she said, according to Deadline. “Bringing this story to Disney+ is a dream come true not to mention hope for our future.

Cuban-American writer Ilana Peña created the series and will be scripting the show. Peña has previously worked on The CW series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

One of the most interesting parts of this series is the title change. While the previous title made it clear that the show starred a woman with the ambition of becoming president, making the shift means that creators and Disney+ are pushing the focus on Elena’s skills.

The ten-episode series will hit Disney+ in weekly installments starting January 17.
