“Mama’s been busy,” tweeted With Love creator Gloria Calderón Kellett in response to Deadline’s report of her upcoming romantic comedy series Arranged.
Arranged is being developed for Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service Freevee. The show will follow a self-destructive movie star (Saturday Night Live alum Taran Killam) and an ambitious Latine pop star. Both decide to create a “mutually beneficial” fake relationship that will help him save his career and help her sell a new breakup album. The plan takes a turn for the worst, however, when the couple realizes they don’t like each other very much.
In a statement to Deadline, Calderón Kellett said she was looking forward to working with Killam, who will also executive produce the series with her. She and Killam have known each other for 17 years and even did black box theater together “back in the day.”
“One of the great joys of the hustle is the people who become family along the way,” said Calderón Kellett. “Taran Killam is one such person. We’ve…cheered one another on in our various endeavors dreaming of the moment when we could work together again for real. It is a joy that he brought me this idea. And I am so excited to work on it with one of the kindest, funniest and most talented men in the industry. Dreams do come true.”
Deadline is also reporting that there is a chance that Gloria Calderón Kellett could play a role in the new series. The showrunner isn’t a stranger to being in front of the camera. She played a network executive on Jane the Virgin for a few episodes and plays Gladys Delgado on With Love. She’s going to play a doctor in Reese Witherspoon’s new movie this year, Your Place or Mine.
Killam adds: “I’m excited about taking a pessimistic premise and finding the optimism in it. I love romantic comedies. And nobody writes about love and the human heart better than my dear friend Gloria.”
