We hate to say it, but after a rough couple of years for TV series like GentefiedOn My BlockDiary of a Future President, and many others, it comes as almost no surprise that HBO Max canceled Gordita Chronicles after only one season.

It’s safe to say that fans of the critically-acclaimed series were not happy with the decision made by HBO Max to end the show after only ten episodes. Everyone knows at this point that giving a series only one season isn’t nearly enough time to solidify a narrative or fanbase.

Can anyone name a Latine-lead show that is currently airing on any network? What is happening behind the scenes in Hollywood where shows like One Day at a TimeMr. IglesiasVidaThe Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia, and The Baker and the Beauty are getting the ax even when the shows are doing well with audiences and critics alike?

“As someone who grew up in Miami, surrounded by a beautiful mezcla of Caribbean/Latine cultures, Gordita Chronicles is so special to me and many others who felt seen and represented in this laugh-out-loud sitcom full of heart y la cultura,” wrote one Twitter user.

Fans of the show are hoping another network will step up and pick up Gordita Chronicles now that it no longer has a home. It happened when Netflix canceled One Day at a Time in 2019 after three impressive seasons, and Pop TV picked it up for a shortened fourth season before the network canceled it outright.

Some Latines want to see our community create its own network so these things stop happening so often. “I am literally so sick of this shit,” one Twitter user wrote. “We need our own network, our own streaming services. Our stories will never be profitable enough for them. Someone, please save Gordita Chronicles!”

Simply put: “Cucu needs a new casa.” Someone out there, make it happen.
