Who’s the Boss, the sitcom that ran for eight seasons on ABC from 1984 to 1992, is returning to TV and bringing a pair of its original cast members along for the ride in a surprising sequel.

According to Deadline, Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano will reprise their roles as father and daughter Tony and Samantha Micelli for a sequel to the series for Amazon Freevee. The new show will be written and executive produced by Gordita Chronicles showrunner Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz and Mike Royce, who both worked as executive producers on the remake of the TV comedy One Day at a Time. TV legend Norman Lear will also join them as an EP.

In the original series, Tony, a former Major League Baseball player, takes a job as a live-in housekeeper and moves himself and his daughter into an upscale home where divorced advertising executive Angela Bower (Judith Light), her son, Jonathan (Danny Pintauro), and mother, Mona (Katherine Helmond), live.

Set 30 years after the original, the new sitcom will feature Tony, now retired, and Samantha, a single mother, living under the same roof. Deadline describes the upcoming series as one that will “explore generational differences, as well as opposing worldviews and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2022.”

On Twitter, Muñoz-Liebowitz joked that she might get the lyrics of the original show’s theme song, “Brand New Life,” tattooed across her chest.

Along with Gordita Chronicles and One Day at a Time, Muñoz-Liebowitz has executive produced Love Life starring Anna Kendrick for HBO Max and Diary of a Future President for Disney+.
