Did you really think Guillermo del Toro was gonna let up? As if the guy would need a vacation after directing Crimson Peak, creating and executive producing FX’s The Strain, and serving as the EP on upcoming features like Rings and Kung Fu Panda 3? Nah. In fact, the master of dark fantasy will apparently be getting right back in the saddle with an upcoming animated series about — you guessed it — trolls, that will be produced by DreamWorks Animation for Netflix’s unstoppable global media empire.

Del Toro superfans will probably have guessed that the series is none other than Trollhunters, a spinoff of the fantasy book written by del Toro and Daniel Kraus and published last year by Disney-Hyperion. The book tells the story of a typical suburban teen named Jim Sturges who discovers a decades-old secret lying below his small California town. Together with his best friend “Tubby,” Sturges enlists the help of human and fantasy creatures alike to save his town from a monstrous threat.

Oh, you didn’t know del Toro also wrote books? Well he’s written four, which basically proves that the man from Guadalajara is actually a mystical creature with superhuman creative powers. It’s not clear yet how faithful the animated adaptation of Trollhunters will be to the original book, but with a 2016 release date we’ll know for sure before year’s end.
