More information about Karol G’s acting debut was revealed during her interview with Vogue México for its March 2022 issue.
The singer will star as “Carla” on the Netflix biopic miniseries Griselda. The show stars Sofía Vergara (Modern Family) as infamous Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco. Karol G’s character is a drug mule who works for Griselda by delivering drugs into the United States.
“It’s a great role because there’s real character development,” Karol G said. “[Carla] is a character that evolves. She sees what she does as a job, but also as a way to maintain her family, and she’s tough! She reaches another level.”
During the Vogue México interview, Karol G also described her experience working as an actress as “another universe” and talked about what she did to prepare for the role.
“With my [acting] teacher, we get into different situations, and he helps me get in character,” she said. “When you’re not an actor, your goal is to do things well, so they’re credible. But in acting, you really get inside a character, and you forget about what people want.”
During The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon late last year, Karol G teased the new Netflix series, but didn’t offer much detail. “I have a lot of things that I want to do in my life,” she told Fallon. “I want to push myself as a woman and see how far I can go in everything.”
Griselda is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in late 2022 or early 2023.
