Latino Media Awards to Honor Dascha Polanco

New York-bred Dominicana, Dascha Polanco, went from under-the-radar to rising star with lightning speed after the premiere of the first season of Orange is the New Black. In her role as Dayanara Diaz, the inmate who falls for one of the male guards, she won over audiences and the show’s writers with her honest portrayal — and was bumped up to series regular once her character got pregnant. (Can you believe it was her first full-time acting job?)

Now, the down home Twitter/Instagram fan favorite, is being honored at the Latino Media Awards on June 27 in Hollywood by the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP). We’ve got a chance for you to win a ticket to the gala event that also will bestow awards upon the legendary Raquel Welch and box office gold Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included). The winner will also get an all access badge to the NALIP Media Summit, the largest gathering of Latino content producers and acting talent in the United States. This is the holy grail of Latino TV, film, webseries, and media of all types.

We’ll be there too, covering the highlights — like the panel dedicated to El Rey’s From Dusk Till Dawn series featuring actors Wilmer ValderramaJesse Garcia, and Danny Trejo; or the keynote lunch with Eva Longoria; the animators chat with famed cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz (who’s working on a show with Seth MacFarlane for Fox); plus the indie filmmakers roundtable that includes director Alfonso Gomez-Rejón (who made history at this past edition of the Sundance Film Festival when he cut a distribution deal for the highest figure ever seen at fest.)

Keep an eye out for coverage of the NALIP Media Summit June 25 – 28 here.
