In the upcoming Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) stars as Mickey Haller, a Los Angeles-based defense attorney who is known for working out of a Lincoln Town Car instead of a law office.

The series, which is being produced by creator David E. Kelley (L.A. Law), is adapted from a 2005 novel of the same name by author Michael Connelly. It was first made into a feature film in 2011 starring Matthew McConaughey in the role of Mickey.

In the first trailer for the new series, which debuts on May 13, 2022, Mickey, who is described as “an iconoclastic idealist,” is portrayed as the kind of man who walks to the beat of his own drum. “One thing I know, success is all about momentum,” he says. “In court, before you can win…you gotta believe you can win.”

If you can’t win, Mickey has some more advice you should follow: “You better fake it till you make it.”

In the new series, Mickey has been left a law practice, which includes having to handle the case of Trevor Elliott (Christopher Gorham), a man who allegedly killed his wife and her boyfriend. Trevor thinks his new lawyer is much better than his last but has heard stories of him going off “the deep end.” While some people think Mickey is a “risk” as a counselor, it seems like he’ll do anything he can for his shady clients, even if that means putting himself in danger.

“People are dead,” Trevor says. “Maybe you and I are next.”

Adding to the drama is Mickey’s relationship with his ex-wife Maggie McPherson (Neve Campbell) and their daughter Hayley (Krista Warner). The Lincoln Lawyer also stars Becki Newton (Ugly Betty), Jazz Raycole (The Soul Man), and Angus Sampson (Insidious: The Last Key).
