No spoilers here, but if you’ve already seen the sixth and final episode of Moon Knight season 1, you know there are a lot of unanswered questions to ponder before going into the next season.
However, let’s pump the brakes for a moment. According to Moon Knight execs, there’s no definite word that the Disney+ series is even getting an additional season.
“We don’t know if there’s a next season,” Mohamed Diab, executive producer and director of four of the six Moon Knight episodes, told Deadline. “Marvel doesn’t go with a conventional way, so even if they like the character and want to extend the world, it could be season 2, it could be a standalone film, or he can join another superhero’s journey. I’m kept in the dark, just like the fans.”
Diab added: “We never discussed it being a season 2, but one day there’s going to be an expansion, but I don’t know how it’s going to look like.”
Moon Knight executive producer Grant Curtis also couldn’t say what would happen to his series now that season 1 is over. “Where Moon Knight lands in [the] MCU after this, I actually don’t know,” he said. “As a fan, I want to know, because Oscar [Isaac] created such an engaging, emotional performance.”
Moon Knight is the sixth TV series produced by Marvel Studios to be released in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). So, let’s look back at the other five and see what happened to them after their first season. Maybe not knowing the fate of Moon Knight is that surprising.
WandaVision won’t be getting a second season. Instead, Marvel has decided to continue the story with a spinoff series, Agatha: House of Harkness, featuring actress Kathryn Hahn’s character. There’s also plans for a spinoff series for Hawkeye, which would follow the deaf, Native American character Echo/Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox).
There is no talk of a second season for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as most believe that narrative will continue in a fourth Captain America feature film. The two series that are confirmed to be getting second seasons are Loki, which is currently in development, and the animated series What If…, which will premiere its season 2 sometime this year.
