It’s been five months since Netflix’s most-watched non-English-language show released its third season. La casa de papel (Money Heist) has grown into a massive success since it’s debut on Netflix in 2017, even garnering an International Emmy for Best Drama.
The series follows a group of eight thieves led by shadowy criminal mastermind El Profesor (Álvaro Morte). In parts one and two, the group robbed and held hostages in the Royal Mint of Spain, while part three saw them going up against Europol and robbing the Bank of Spain.
As part of an announcement about the premiere date made at Brazil’s Comic-Con, a short video was released. The 29-second promo shows all the cast members rotating while interspersed with the masks they wear during their heists. The last season ended with the character of Raquel, (aka “Lisboa”) played by Itziar Ituño, being caught and held hostage by the police. The Professor assumes her to be dead and based on this brief promo there’s no doubt that the relationship will be a focus of this new season.
Outside of this, there’s little known about the new season or where the heist will take place, except the tagline which states: “Prepárate para el caos.” (Get ready for chaos.) During the Comic Con panel, the show’s cast gave a few hints. “Now is the time to regroup. The group is hurt and needs to restructure itself, to find new way to be a family again,” said Alba Flores who plays Nairobi.
Rodrigo de la Serna, the Argentine actors who plays Palermo, added, “The big challenge is to survive; it’s a very delicate situation. We are focused on saving our lives. This is no longer a robbery; it’s a war.”
The series is taking the usual approach to a digital release, putting out this new season nearly a year after the last one, but based on the Twitter responses to the initial announcement, fans have been chomping at the bit, and they can’t wait much longer.
