The third and final season of Narcos: Mexico premieres Friday (November 5), but it looks like the Narcos franchise is far from being complete.

According to What’s on Netflix, the streaming giant will continue the drama series with a new spinoff starring Sofia Vergara as Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, AKA the “Cocaine Godmother” and the “Queen of Narco Trafficking.”

Blanco worked out of Miami for decades starting in the 1970s and was part of the Medellín Cartel. She was a major player in the drug trade between Colombia and the United States. The violent drug smugglers working for her operation in Miami were dubbed the “Cocaine Cowboys.”

The new limited series on Blanco will consist of six episodes and cover her and her enterprise at the height of its power. Blanco was assassinated in Medellín in 2012.

“If she was not one of the most prolific traffickers in the Miami area, she clearly was one of the most violent,” Metro Dade Police Department Sergeant Al Singleton said at the time. “We’ve got her, conservatively…involved in at least 40 homicides between Miami, Queens, and Broward County.”

In 2018, Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones was criticized for taking on the role of Blanco in the Lifetime movie Cocaine Godmother since she isn’t part of our communities. Last year, it was reported that Jennifer López was revisiting talks to portray the drug dealer in a movie called The Godmother by director Reed Moreno (The Handmaid’s Tale).

The limited series led by Vergara will be run by Ingrid Escajeda, the writer and producer of shows like Justified, Empire, and Sneaky Pete.
