After announcing two weeks ago that Walking Dead actress Christian Serratos would take on the role of Selena in Selena: The Series, Netflix is rounding out its cast. The streaming giant has added several more people to the cast, including Julio Macias, Jesse Posey, Carlos Alfredo, Jr., Daniela Estrada and Hunter Reese Peña.

Posey, who is Mexican-American, will take on what is perhaps the second most exciting role, that of Chris Perez, who was the lead guitarist for Selena y Los Dinos and the Queen of Tejano’s husband. The two carried on their relationship in secret at the risk of upsetting Selena’s father.

Another exciting casting is that of On My Block star Macias, who will portray Pete Astudillo, another one of Selena’s collaborators. Astudillo, a member of the band Los Bad Boys, wrote several of Selena’s most popular songs. He’ll be joined by Alfredo, Jr. who will play Selena y Los Dinos’ second keyboardist Joe Ojeda, who, also wrote songs for the band. Paul Rodriguez, Jr. will play the shy guitarist Roger Garcia, who finds being on the road challenging. And Hunter will take on the role of Ricky Vela, who became one of A.B. Quintanilla’s chief collaborators.

As for Selena’s family, we’ll see Juan Martinez as the young version of A.B. Meanwhile, Daniela Estrada has been cast as a young Suzette. Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noemi Gonzalez, Seidy Lopez and Madison Taylor Baez, who will play a young Selena, were previously announced.

Selena: The Series focuses on the rise of Selena and her band, starting from her time as a child to her breakout as a Tejano music superstar. The series is one of several Selena-centric pieces of entertainment to debut on streaming. The 1997 biopic of the star, starring Jennifer Lopez, will soon be available to stream on HBOMax, while Selena’s famous last concert at the Houston Astrodome can be rented on Amazon Video.

The cast here continues to look fantastic and it’s only a matter of time before a release date gets declared. The wait feels long but pretty sure we’ll all be singing “Como la Flor” again with Serratos’ take on Selena.

Selena: The Series will likely hit Netflix sometime in 2020.
