Dune is a wonder with many intriguing and moving parts that make it the kind of movie to watch out for when it hits theaters and HBO Max this week. And while Zendaya is a shining light that any of us would hope to have visions of, and Timothée Chalamet surprises with his standout performance, it’s Oscar Isaac’s Duke Leto Atreides that really draws the eye.

For those who have never read the Dune series, the Duke is the head of his family and the father to Paul Atreides, played by Chalamet. He’s a powerful, cunning, and proud man who loves his son and his partner Lady Jessica Atreides, played by Rebecca Ferguson. And when his family is assigned to care for the planet Arrakis, which is chock-full of a value substance called “spice,” he’s keenly aware of the danger that brings his family.

Remezcla got a chance to speak with Oscar Isaac himself about Dune and the interview honestly made us want to watch the movie all over again. For one, he was very aware of the effect his beard has had on the internet and fans alike. His eyes lit up when we commented about his current beardless state during the interview. And the laugh he let out made us relive every moment his beard took center stage on Dune.

Then there’s what Isaac would bring to Arrakis. As a desert planet, it has few resources and anything that you need has to be shipped in and carefully taken care of to increase its longevity. And we were wondering if given the choice, and as a Latino, what would he bring to Arrakis and why? We’ve never seen someone answer a question so fast and with so much certainty.

“I think limón. For me, everything needs to have limones. I’m a big fan.” He continued on by saying that in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t a weird answer and we agree considering the interviewer would bring sazón. “It’s not weird if you’re Latino. I put lime on everything.”

Dune also marks another occasion of Isaac playing a character that travels through space, earning him a place among other Space Latinos like Pedro Pascal from The Mandalorian, Diego Luna from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, or Santiago Cabrera from Star Trek: Picard. And when asked who he would want to hit up space with next, out of these three, it was clear he knew the answer before we finished asking the question.

“I’d have to say my sweet girlfriend Pedro. My girl. We’re two sisters. Space sisters,” Isaac gushed, eager to talk about Pascal before continuing with, “That’s my baby.” And he made us want this duo to team up even more when he finished with, “It’s my Pedro.”

Hopefully, Hollywood will make Oscar Isaac’s (and our) dreams come true.

Dune hits theaters and HBO Max on October 22, 2021.
