Actor Pedro Pascal has joined the ensemble cast of Freaky Tales, an original film inspired by co-director Ryan Fleck’s experience growing up in Oakland during the 1980s.

According to Deadline, Freaky Tales “is comprised of four interconnected stories each featuring distinct characters, real-life locations and noteworthy historical events (some real, some imagined).”

There are no details on what role Pascal is going to play in the film, but so far, The Mandalorian star will be joined by actors Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), Jay Ellis (Top Gun: Maverick), Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of the Water), and Dominique Thorne (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever).

Fleck and his filmmaking partner Anna Boden will helm Freaky Tales. The duo got their start in 2006 when they directed the independent drama Half Nelson, which earned Ryan Gosling his first of two Academy Award nominations in his career. Fleck and Boden went on to direct four more features, including the 2008 sports drama Sugar about a Dominican baseball player struggling to make it in the Big Leagues, and the 2019 superhero movie Captain Marvel.

The Pascal news comes on the heels of the excitement that fans already have for his upcoming TV series The Last of Us. Recently, HBO accidentally and then officially released the premiere date for the show as January 15, 2023.

Pascal has a handful of other projects currently in the works, including HBO’s true-crime series My Dentist’s Murder Trial alongside David Harbour (Stranger Things), and Strange Way of Life, a short Western directed by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar (Talk to Her).
