Some might know filmmaker Robert Rodriguez of his fans as the guy who gave the world a handful of gritty and violent movies over the years like From Dusk Till DawnMachete, and Planet Terror. Still, it’s clear from his full filmography that the Texas-based writer and director has a soft spot for kid’s projects.

After his popular family movie, We Can Be Heroes, debuted on Netflix early last year, Rodriguez quickly got the green light for a sequel. Now, according to Deadline, Netflix is looking at Rodriguez to create another family flick to add to his Spy Kids franchise, which according to The Numbers, has made more than $565 million worldwide.

The original Spy Kids movie hit theaters in 2001 and told the story of two kids who set out to save their spy parents from a high-tech villain. Rodriguez wrote and directed the film and did the same for its three subsequent sequels – 2002’s Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, and 2011’s Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. The new sequel, which Rodriguez will also write and direct, will feature a new family of spies. With Marvel and DC creating their own cinematic and extended universes, maybe somewhere down the line, Spy Kids and We Can Be Heroes can do a crossover for fans of both movies.

Next up for Rodriguez is Hypnotic, a sci-fi action flick starring Oscar winner Ben Affleck as a detective who believes a secret government program has something to do with his daughter’s disappearance. He’s also signed on to write a new Zorro TV series.
