The Hollywood Reporter announced that Mexican-American actress and singer Selena Gomez has joined the latest film from director Woody Allen. Gomez will join Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalemet in the untitled film. Like many of Allen’s previous movies the plot is being kept tightly under wraps. All that’s currently known, outside of the actors, is that Amazon Studios is distributing the feature.

The young stars are causing a bit of a media firestorm considering Allen’s controversial past, including allegations of sexual assault. Gomez herself is a producer on the critically acclaimed (and hot button in its own right) Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why, a show focused on young teens and sexual assault though she’s no stranger to controversial film choices, diving into adult roles with Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers in 2012.

Twitter users had a lot to say about Gomez’s choice to work with the director whose adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, accused him of molestation in an open letter in the New York Times.

It’s unknown when cameras will roll on the Allen project.
