  • Sofia Vergara (TV’s Modern Family) is returning to Season 16 of America’s Got Talent alongside fellow judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. Vergara made her debut on the NBC talent show last year during Season 15. Terry Crews will also return this upcoming season as the host. [Deadline]
  • Kalinda Vazquez (Star Trek: Discovery) has been tapped to write an original Star Trek movie. She would be the first woman ever to write a screenplay for a film in the franchise. Vasquez is also working on a script about America Chavez, Marvel’s first Latinx LGBTQ superhero. [Variety]
  • There is a live-action Dora the Explorer TV series in development at Paramount+. Reps from the newest of the streaming services said the show would be “in the vein of” the 2019 live-action feature film Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which starred Isabela Merced. [The Hollywood Reporter]
  • Vanessa Rubio (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) will be a series regular during season 4 of Cobra Kai on Netflix. Rubio has played Carmen Diaz, the mother of lead character Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), since Season 1. During Season 3, Rubio’s Carmen gets much closer to Miguel’s sensei Johnny (William Zabka).   • Newcomer Rachel Zegler, who will be seen later this year in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, has been cast in the superhero sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Zegler is Colombian American. [The Hollywood Reporter]
    Roselyn Sanchez (TV’s Devious Maids) will make her directorial debut with Diario: Mujer y Café, a dramedy about a group of friends who reunite to take a vacation together. The film will start production this summer on location in Puerto Rico. [Variety]
  • Alanna Ubach (Coco) has been cast as a series regular on the upcoming dark comedy TV series Guilty Party starring Kate Beckinsale. Ubach will play a character named Tessa who is a “chief crime correspondent” rising in the ranks of the journalism world as Beckinsale’s lead reporter character tries to salvage her tarnished career.
