Cuban-American actress and all-around queen, Gina Torres has dominated some fantastic shows, from the sci-fi Western drama Firefly to the USA Network legal drama, Suits. We’ve said she’s been killing it in the past, but it looks like she’s set to lead another series to greatness. After leaving the USA show where she played steely attorney Jessica Pearson, Torres announced her character is getting a spin-off series entitled Second City.
Second City is set to follow Torres’ Pearson character as she focuses on cases in Chicago. The recent season finale of her previous series, Suits, acted as a pilot for Second City, Torres announced during the recent NBCU upfronts. It’s unclear when Second City is set to debut on USA but it looks like it will arrive in time for Suits‘ eighth season premiere sometime at year’s end.
Gina Torres is always such a great presence on any show and it’s about time she’s finally given a chance to lead a series, as opposed to just being part of an ensemble. Suits is considered one of the USA network’s “mothership” shows and I have to believe that’s all because of Torres’ amazing work. Watching her present legal arguments and be an all-around badass sounds great!
