It’s anything but case closed for Mickey Haller. Netflix has just announced that the legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Manuel García Rulfo, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, and Neve Campbell will be returning for a second season. Dailyn Rodriguez, previously the showrunner of USA Network’s Queen of the South, will join the sophomore season as co-showrunner/EP, alongside Ted Humphrey, who developed the series with creator David. E. Kelley.

The news was announced by Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria at the Banff World Media Festival.

Season 2 of the show is set to consist of 10 episodes and will be based on the fourth book in the Lincoln Lawyer series by Michael Connelly, The Fifth Witness. The first season, which also consisted of ten episodes, was based on the second book in the series, The Brass Verdict

The renewal is not exactly a surprise, with the show’s first season holding firmly on the Netflix Global Top 10 with a cumulative 260.53 million hours viewed as of June 5, 2022, reaching the Top 10 in 90 countries. That doesn’t make the news any less joyous, particularly for a show that bet on showcasing a character from our communities – with an actor from our communities, and just letting him be what he was good at.

García Rulfo himself, when he spoke to Remezcla about the first season, discussed how important it was for him to represent Mickey Haller authentically as someone who happened to be a good lawyer, but who was also Mexican-American in more than name. It wasn’t just about his culture, but that didn’t mean the culture wasn’t present. That representation was a breath of fresh air and something we’re looking forward to getting more of, particularly with Rodriguez joining the show as co-showrunner.

The Lincoln Lawyer season one is available to stream now on Netflix.
