With her job on Jane the Virgin having come to a close (one of the several roles she’s absolutely killed) and her work on Jordan Peele’s new sci-fi series Weird City that hit the web in February, Rosario Dawson isn’t wasting any time keeping herself on your television screen. For her next on-screen performance, she’s taking a cue from her love Cory Booker and getting politically inclined.

The trailer for the second season of the Oakland-set comedy The North Pole dropped and Dawson is using art to poke fun at life. The show follows immigrant Benny Ramirez (Santiago Rosas) and his friends. The second season will pick up right where season one left off, with Benny suffering the fallout from his confrontation with the police.

Dawson looks to show up early as Benny’s attorney, here to deliver good news and bad news. The good news is Benny is free from prison. The bad news is he isn’t free from being deported. Dawson’s character tells him to “forget the codes and procedures. Be creative.” Benny decides to “think like Trump” and “pretend to be a politician” by becoming one of the first undocumented immigrants to run for public office.

The rest of the trailer sees Benny’s makeshift campaign as he attempts to replace the sheriff who has it out for him. As the tagline says, Benny will “take a stand” and “change the story” by galvanizing his community into engaging in politics. There also looks to be plotlines about Oakland’s continued interest in veganism and how to deal with racist family members.

Dawson is executive producer of the YouTube short series. In a statement announcing season two, she said, “I’m excited to be part of this show that’s both outrageously funny and deadly serious — and could not be more timely. At a moment when children are being thrown in cages at the border, and so many of our communities and environments are under attack, The North Pole flips the script with radical black and brown characters speaking their unfiltered truth and reclaiming their power.”

The second season of The North Pole hits YouTube on September 10, 2019.
