ABC continues to roll out details about their new season of television shows. The new adaptation of Grand Hotel has arrived and the network announced the Christina Vidal-led show United We Fall is coming soon.

Now, ABC has revealed they’ve greenlit the hour-long comedy The Baker and the Beauty. Starring Raising Victor Vargas and How to Make It in America star Victor Rasuk, The Baker and the Beauty is based on an Israeli show that follows a young working class man who falls in love with a celebrity. In this case, Rasuk plays Daniel Garcia, a man working in his family’s Cuban bakery, who ends up in a whirlwind relationship with Noa Hamilton, “an international superstar and fashion mogul.”

The series co-stars Peruvian-Argentine actress Nathalie Kelley as Noa, Carlos Gomez, David Del Rio, Belissa Escobedo, and Michelle Veintimilla. It also stars Lisa Vidal as Mari Garcia, possibly one of Daniel’s siblings. Vidal is the sister of Taina star Christina Vidal, meaning the sisters are on the same network. The United We Fall Instagram had to celebrate that fact, posting a photo of both Vidals and declaring “Sisters at the #ABCUpfronts!”

The Baker and the Beauty is being described as a Notting Hill-esque romantic comedy and that certainly piques my interest. Rasuk is a solid leading man and the premise of an average Joe dating a celebrity could go down some unique paths, particularly if race ends up being a factor they explore. It’s hard not to compare this to United We Fall, both being shows about couples struggling under unusual circumstances, but this one is presenting itself as far more serious and in line with other successful ABC dramas like Grey’s Anatomy.

There’s no release date yet for The Baker and the Beauty.
