Actor Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) recently started a friendly rivalry with Bad Bunny over the title roles they’ve landed in their upcoming superhero movies.

Last summer, Maridueña was announced as the lead in DC’s Blue Beetle, which will be the first DC film to center on a Latine character. Last week, Marvel-Sony announced that Bad Bunny was taking on the role of El Muerto in his own film. Like Blue Beetle and DC, El Muerto will break barriers by becoming the first Latine character to get its own Marvel movie.

On his Instagram stories, Maridueña jokingly jabbed at the news that Bad Bunny was going to play El Muerto. He posted images of himself next to Blue Beetle and a pair of photos of Bad Bunny and El Muerto from a Marvel comic book where the character wrestles Spider-Man. “No, Blue Beetle whoopin El Muertos ass,” he wrote. “I want all that smoke daddy.”

Xolo Maridueña also posted the release dates of both films, August 18, 2023, for Blue Beetle and January 12, 2024, for El Muerto. Maybe he just wanted to remind everyone who was hitting theaters first. When he was first cast, he said he was “beyond grateful to be able to fill in these enormous shoes as one of the first Latino Superhero on the big screen.”

Maybe somewhere, sometime, Blue Beetle and El Muerto will team up to fight for Latines across the globe. That’s one multiverse we can all get behind.
