Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán is a highly polarizing figure – seen by some as a hero of the poor and by others as a ruthless cartel leader responsible for countless deaths. But with his own Homer Simpson-style muñequito and songs dedicated to him across different genres, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán cemented a place in pop culture long before his second prison breakout. And after embarrassing the Mexican government for the second time and having all his dirty laundry aired (i.e. anything that deals with Kate del Castillo), Chapomania has reached new heights.
On top of having Chapo shirts, piñatas, and a Halloween costume, the capo is now also the coveted subject of nail art and decals featuring his likeness. In the last month, nail art expert Yulie González has received more than 100 messages from those wanting to jump on the El Chapo nails bandwagon, according to El Diario.
