The call for justice and the defunding of police, as well as against police brutality and racism (not only in culture but systems and institutions), is one that the rest of the world is slowly but surely catching on to. What began as an impassioned cry for the arrest of the police officers involved in George Floyd’s murder is now a global movement that will, hopefully, surely change our meaning of “normal.”
The pandemic did not stop crowds from amassing again on the weekend of June 5 across not only the United States, which was an COVID-19 epicenter until recently when Latin America recently took its place. Brazil, which reportedly has had more than 36,000 deaths and 690,000 diagnoses cases has shown up and shown out to demand the end of racism and police brutality, which is a very real issue in favelas especially.
