Actress Eiza González had a very memorable 2021 and she’s looking to have a similar year in 2022.

Last summer, she was the lone female on a list of the highest-grossing Hollywood stars alongside Marvel favorites like actors Tom Holland and Samuel L. Jackson. González was even extended an invitation to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which grants her a vote for the Academy Awards.

This year, González will be seen on the big screen in April. She stars in the action thriller Ambulance alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, (Candyman) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler). In the film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on April 8, 2022, she plays Cam Thompson, an EMT who finds herself at the center of a heist when a pair of bank robbers carjack her emergency vehicle.

Along with Ambulance, González will soon be seen in the role of legendary Mexican actress Maria Félix in an upcoming biopic. “This is one of the most exciting moments of my life,” she said on social media. “Maria was a pioneer of the feminist movement who helped lay the foundation for future female trailblazers.”

Here are a few more interesting facts about Eiza González that you should know before you check out Ambulance.

1

Where It Started

González, who was born in Mexico City in 1990, made her screen debut on the 2007 Mexican teen series Lola, érase una vez (Lola, Once Upon a Time) where she played a modern-day Cinderella. The series ran for 224 episodes. She would go on to act in a few other Mexican telenovelas, including Mañana es para siempre, Sueña conmigo, and Amores verdaderos.

2

Work of Art

Along with her talent as an actress, González also likes to sketch. While sketching a portrait of her Bloodshot costar Sam Heughan, she said she usually works in pastels because it gives her art more depth. “What I like about art, specifically freehand sketching, is that there’s never a mistake but endless new possibilities,” she said.

3

Giving Back

Aside from the entertainment industry, González gives back to the global community. She’s worked with the nonprofit This Is About Humanity, which helps raise awareness about families from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border who are separated. Along with immigration, she’s also a strong proponent of women’s rights and Black Lives Matter, among other issues.

4

Family Ties

González’s mother is former Mexican model Glenda Reyna. Her mom served in the past as a judge on the TV series Mexico’s Next Top Model. Reyna once owned her own modeling agency, Glenda Modeling Training.

González’s father, Carlos, died in a car accident when the actress was only 12 years old. “He was an incredible dad and part of who I am is thanks to him,” she’s said about her father in the past. “I have very good memories of him.”

5

Musical Talent

González has released two music albums – 2010’s Contracorriente and 2012’s Te Acordarás de Mí. She was able to show off some of her musical talent when she recorded the song “Fearless” with co-star Isabela Merced for the animated movie Spirit Untamed.

6

We Are the Champions

We’re not sure who her No. 1 favorite football organization is since there’s evidence that she’s cheered for the Dallas Cowboys before cheering for the Los Angeles Rams. But it must’ve been a great Super Bowl for the González household since the Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, earlier this year.

7

Get Ready for Some TV

Currently, González is working on two separate TV series – Extrapolations for AppleTV+ and The Three-Body Problem for Netflix.

Extrapolations is an anthology series about climate change that also stars Meryl Streep, Tobey Maguire, and Edward Norton. The Three-Body Problem is a sci-fi series about humankind’s first contact with aliens. “Get ready cause you’re not gonna know what hit you,” González said about the sci-fi show.
