It’s been quite a year so far for Pedro Pascal. As we anticipated, the Chilean-American actor has done some incredible things in the first half of the year that has fueled his star power in Hollywood – and there’s plenty more to come.

First, Pascal got the year off to a great start with the release of his action-comedy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, alongside Oscar-winner Nicholas Cage. He also graced a Star Wars-themed cover for Vanity Fair as his title character in The Mandalorian with Ewan McGregor and fellow Latine actors Rosario Dawson and Diego Luna. There was also the new Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) Netflix movie he starred in called The Bubble.

In April, he told Remezcla that while his BFF Oscar Isaac’s Marvel character Moon Knight might be able to beat The Mandalorian in a game of Scrabble, there was no way he would be victorious in a physical fight.

It might be a quieter second half of the year for Pascal. His following two projects – the third season of The Mandalorian and his HBO series The Last of Us – are not expected to debut until early 2023. Still, surprises can happen when your stock is as high as Pascal’s is right now. Until the release of his upcoming projects, here are a few facts about Pedro Pascal that you should know.

1

His Bromance With Oscar Isaac Is the Real Deal

Most people have a best friend that completes them. For Pascal, it seems that’s fellow actor Oscar Isaac. The happiness they exhibit when they are together is undeniable. In an interview with Remezcla late last year, Isaac described Pascal as his “sweet girlfriend.” Isaac doesn’t have social media, but Pascal always posts photos of the two together at events or celebrating someone’s birthday or a holiday. Bottom line: It’s love – and it’s real.

How It Started

Before high-profile movies like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Wonder Woman 1984, Pascal starred in smaller films in the mid-2000s. The first movie of his career was a 2005 drama called Hermanas. Set in 1976, the film follows two sisters who are separated when they escape the political turmoil in their home country of Argentina. Pascal plays a character named Steve, an employee at a second-hand store who develops a crush on one of the sisters. Oh, speaking of movies starring Pascal that you’ve probably never heard of, there was also that one time Pascal played a vampire.

An LGBTQ+ Ally

Pascal is an ally and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. He showed immense support for his sister Lux when she came out as transgender in early 2021. In an interview with YA magazine, Lux said that her brother “has been an important part of this. He’s also an artist and has served as a guide for me. He was one of the first people to gift me the tools that started shaping my identity.” When Lux was featured on the cover of YA, Pascal posted the magazine on social media and wrote, “Mi hermana, mi corazón, nuestra Lux.”

4

He Still Refers to Grogu As Baby Yoda

It might be blasphemous in the tightest Star Wars circles. Still, Pascal admitted – under the duress of a lie detector test – that when the cameras are not rolling on The Mandalorian, he’ll still sometimes refer to the lovable character Grogu as Baby Yoda. Pascal has known the character’s name was Grogu since the start of Season 2. When he revealed to Vanity Fair that he sometimes calls Grogu by his unofficial name, you could almost see Pascal’s soul leave his body.

Paying Tribute

On his social media accounts, Pascal devotes himself to offering special condolences publicly when a fellow celebrity passes away or tragedy hits America, and he wants to show his respect. In the past, Pascal has posted tributes to actors and musicians like Robin Williams, Prince, Gene Wilder, Aretha Franklin, Chadwick Boseman, and the countless victims of gun violence, including the men and women killed in El Paso, Texas, in 2019 and the children and teachers who died in the tragic Uvalde, Texas, shooting last month.
