Diet Avocados Are a Thing, And The Internet Really, Really, Really Hates It

Avocados – the star of many a toast on Instagram, a staple that makes up roughly 77 percent of our diets* (*based on our made-up but probably accurate calculations), and what Ms Nina pairs with aceite “pa’ que crezca este culo” – are perfect just the way they are. Yet, Spanish fruit company Eurobanan’s Isla Bonita brand has decided to fix something that was decidedly not broken. The company will a so-called Avocado Light, an aguacate with 30 percent less fat, later this month, according to GrubStreet.

The fruit has a “mild” flavor and “juicier” pulp. It also reportedly ripens more quickly and turns brown more slowly. Though it’s true avocados are high in fat, it’s the good kind of fat that can help lower bad cholesterol when eaten in moderation.

News of these Frankensteined avocados (the company analyzed 32 different varieties grown in different parts of the world) has deeply upset the internet. Check out a few reactions below:
