It’s game on for Puerto Rican icon Yandel with the release his new album Quién Contra Mi 2. The 22-track album features an astounding 28 artists. The visuals are inspired by arcade video games as Yandel goes head-to-head with the guests on his album.
Quién Contra Mi 2 is the sequel to Yandel’s debut solo album of the same name from 2003. While the original installment only featured Puerto Rican legend Tego Calderón and duo Alexis y Fido, this new version’s guestlist ups the ante. A who’s who of reggaetón music right now are featured on Quién Contra Mi 2.
From Colombia, there’s J Balvin and Maluma. Natti Natasha and El Alfa represent the Dominican Republic. From Yandel’s own Puerto Rico, there’s OGs like Nicky Jam and Zion y Lennox and superstars like Anuel AA and Ozuna.
Some names noticeably missing in action are Puerto Rican megastar Bad Bunny, who used their collaboration “Canción Con Yandel” for his Las Que No Iban a Salir album, Colombian reggaetonera Karol G, and Yandel’s partner-in-crime Wisin. To celebrate Yandel’s all-star Quién Contra Mi 2, we paired five knockout collaborations with our favorite video games.
Yandel x Jhay Cortez - "Ponme Al Día"
Like in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Yandel and Cortez collide on “Ponme Al Día,” one of the magical moments on Quién Contra Mi 2. On the song produced by hitmaker EARCANDY and hip-hop force DVLP, both singers trade verses about missing their lovers that have left them wanting more. Cortez’s dulcet voice rounds out Yandel’s rough-around-the-edges vibe. Together they prove to be an irresistible duo on this slice of sentimental perreo.
Yandel x Maluma - "Qué Vas a Hacer"
Yandel enlists Maluma on “Qué Vas a Hacer.” EARCANDY and DVLP are also behind this haunting collaboration. On the flipside of a breakup, the singers let their old flames know that whatever they had before is extinguished. Like in Marvel Vs. Capcom, two different worlds of music come together. Maluma channels his flirty flow into some stinging, kiss-off lines, asking not to have Christian Nodal songs dedicated to him anymore. Yandel drives that point home in an emotional performance.
Yandel x El Alfa - "Fiesta y Rumba"
Like in Street Fighter, Dominican dembow star El Alfa enters an international battle with Yandel in “Fiesta y Rumba.” Hit-making duo Play-N-Skillz is at the helm of this sonic journey led by both artists. They get the party started as the track shifts between a mix of bachatón and dembow. El Alfa encourages the listener to turn off their phone and dance the night away, while Yandel co-signs that message. The duo unleashes a refreshing club banger.
Yandel x Anuel AA - ""Por Mi Reggae Muero 2020"
Anuel AA aligns with Yandel on “Por Mi Reggae Muero 2020,” one of two Wisin y Yandel songs that he remakes with a new artist on Quién Contra Mi 2. (The other is Yandel’s “Dembow 2020” with Rauw Alejandro). Puerto Rican hitmakers DJ Luian and the Mambo Kingz reinvent the 2000 reggaetón classic with sounds that reflect perreo’s past and present. Like in Mortal Kombat, Anuel AA goes savage and tears into this collaboration with his frosty flow (BRRR!), while Yandel brings some familiarity to it.
Yandel x Myke Towers x Natti Natasha x Darell - "Diablo En Mujer"
Like in a multiplayer battle in Super Smash Bros., Yandel joins forces with Towers, Natasha, and Darell (of “Everybody go to the discotek!” fame) on “Diablo En Mujer.” DJ Luian and the Mambo Kings are also behind the hypnotic collaboration. Natasha is one of two women artists featured on Quién Contra Mi 2, including Puerto Rican singer Catalyna on “Hasta Abajo Le Doy.” She has Yandel, Towers, and Darell under her spell on “Diablo” and represents that baddie life well. As a team, they turn up the heat with this red-hot reggaetón romp.
