This past weekend, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Pedro Capó took to the stage at the CONMEBOL Copa América in Brazil to perform his hit single “Calma.” The tranquil tune about enjoying life outside has taken Capó around the globe this past year. Thanks to the remix with Puerto Rican reggaetonero Farruko that was released last October, “Calma” has connected Capó with an audience that extends beyond Latin America. While the song is a breakthrough for him, it’s actually not his first single. Capó has released over a decade’s worth of music before “Calma.”

“Calma” has certainly taken Capó’s music career to new heights, peaking at no. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and later becoming one of the few Spanish-language songs to crossover to the Hot 100 chart at no. 71. The beachside music video also ruled Billboard’s YouTube chart for a number of weeks. Since it was uploaded on YouTube in 2018, its garnered 135 million views.  Before taking a vacation in that video, the grandson of Puerto Rican legend Bobby Capó had been hard at work in the industry since debuting with 2007’s Fuego y Amor album. The follow-up, 2011’s Pedro Capó, was his first big success with most of the singles appearing on the Hot Latin Songs and Latin Pop Songs charts.

Capó has not only been writing and recording his own music, but doing that for other artists as well. In between 2014’s Aquila and 2017’s Latin Grammy-winning En Letra de Otro albums, he co-wrote one of Puerto Rican superstar Ricky Martin’s biggest recent hits, 2015’s “La Mordidita.” While most of the world now knows Capó for “Calma,” here’s a list of his best songs that he released before his 2018 hit.

"Estoy Enamorado" (2009)

Before “Calma,” Capó’s biggest hit was a duet with Mexican superstar Thalía. For her 2009 unplugged album Primera Fila, the two covered Latin duo Donato & Estéfano’s “Estoy Enamorado.” Pedro and Thalía complement each other well with their delightfully delicate take on the song. Latinos fell in love with Capó soon after.

"Si Tu Me Lo Pides" (2011)

Capó scored another hit with another duet. For his 2011 self-titled album, he teamed up with fellow Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Kany García on “Si Tu Me Lo Pides.” Both budding artists at the time, who have gone onto greater careers, trade verses about a supernatural-like romance. Two of P.R.’s most powerful voices make the impossible seem possible.

"Fiebre De Amor" (2014)

One of Capó’s biggest hits pre-“Calma” and on his own is “Fiebre De Amor” from 2014’s Alquila album. The soaring love song was inspired by his relationship with his wife Jessica Rodriguez and one of their children on the way at the time. The smile on Pedro’s face is palpable as he croons the sweetest words. His fiebre is contagious.

"La Mordidita" (2015)

Puerto Rico’s best artists came together in 2015 to write Ricky Martin’s “La Mordidita” for his A Quien Quiera Escuchar album. Among the songwriters listed were Martin, OG reggaetonero Don Omar, and Capó. In 2019, Pedro released a video of himself performing the song by the beach. With guitar in-hand, he gives the tropical track a sultry acoustic update.

"Grita al Cielo" (2017)

In 2017, Capó made a guest appearance on Mexican singer-songwriter Gustavo Galindo’s “Grita al Cielo” from his Renacer album. On the pop-rock track, the guys dig deep to churn out soulful performances. In a world that’s gotten wild in the past few years, Galindo and Capó come through with a carpe diem message that’s filled with heart on this stirring standout.

"Como Lo Hiciste Ayer" (2019)

As a bonus, here is one of the songs Capó recently released after the success of “Calma.” He teams up with Colombian production team ICON and local singer Reykon on “Como Lo Hiciste Ayer.” Backed by a blend of Latin pop and reggaeton beats, Capó and Reykon turn up the heat singing about wanting to hook up with an old flame one last time. They make an alluring offer that’s hard to refuse.
