The nominations for the 2019 edition of the Billboard Music Awards were announced today, and Cardi B rose as the absolute leader of the pack. The Bronx rapper received 21 nods in 18 categories, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist. This is a well-deserved recognition of both her artistry and her record-setting performance on the Billboard charts, where her presence has been consistent thanks to her album Invasion of Privacy and its singles, as well as her joint tracks with Maroon 5 and DJ Snake.

On the other hand, urbano artists took over the Top Latin categories, as Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, Nicky Jam, Anuel AA, and Maluma are all up for awards. Bad Bunny and J Balvin also scored big, receiving nine and eight nominations respectively, for their own work and collaborations. Things are looking good for Latinx and Latin American music in this year’s awards, and we hope that, with this current trajectory, popular genres like urbano and Latin trap will be more represented in the main categories in future editions.

Check out the nominations for the Top Latin categories below, and head over to Billboard to see the full list of nominees.

The 26th Billboard Music Awards will air on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. EST on NBC.
