Cardi B has had a particularly great year and a half following the release of Invasion of Privacy. For starters, she’s won several awards including a Grammy for Best Rap Album. For enders, she’s turned every ball out of left field – namely her husband’s cheating, and assault charges against her – into opportunities to further establish her brand and career. Exhibit A: “Press,” and “Be Careful.” So, what’s next?
“I think I’m gonna name my album Tiger Woods,” Cardi said in an Insta live stream that appears to have been recorded as she got her makeup done while driving or in a moving vehicle (?? an impressive art, but conversation for another time). She then explains her apparently completely level-headed decision, saying “Remember when everybody was talking sh*t [about] Tiger Woods like oh blah blah blah, blah blah this blah blah that, and then he came and won that green jacket? That’s what I’ma name my album.”
First off, I’m choosing to believe this isn’t the knee-jerk result of a bad meal, or a joke, because – well, is the meaning behind a green jacket common knowledge? Speaking for myself, it is not. This sounds like a premeditated act on her part. Particularly because Kulture’s mother has alluded to working on said album for months now.
For those who don’t know, the green jacket is a garment awarded to those who win the Masters Tournament – which Woods won in April of this year. And for those who don’t know why Woods was in the mouths of many prior to that accolade and his undeniably impressive comeback. Well, back in 2010, reports showed he cheated on his then-wife dozens of times. Around 120 times, give or take. He then disappeared for a bit, before coming out of the woods again and resuming his dating life – which most recently led to a claim that he forced ex-girlfriend Kristin Smith to sign an N.D.A in order to cover up another cheating allegation.
Cardi B’s now-deleted live is the first hint we’re getting at the vision and direction of her upcoming work, which she says is her main focus right now. We eagerly await further updates, which we will of course relay to you.
