Based on the assumption that Shakira is a single woman now (something her or her boyfriend Gerard Piqué has not confirmed), fans of the Colombian singer have taken to social media to begin setting her up. And they’ve got their pick: Chris Evans — which has also made for some hilarious memes.
It started when online sleuths noticed that actor Evans (Avengers: Endgame) had started following Shakira on Instagram around the same time rumors were spreading that Piqué had cheated on the music star and lived separately from her.
Along with the Evans news, footage from the 2015 New York premiere of the film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. surfaced recently, which featured British actor Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) reacting favorably to someone on the red carpet which he believed was Shakira. Even if it wasn’t Shakira, the double-take, wide eyes, and smile from Cavill had fans online already playing matchmaker with her and the D.C. star.
The D.C. vs. Marvel matchup for Shakira’s love took on a life of its own on social media. In one meme, Evans and Cavill’s faces were inserted on the bodies of the superhero characters fighting to protect Shakira in the music video for her song “Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)” from her 2001 album Laundry Service.
One user revived an old photo of Shakira sitting in front of a desktop computer to joke that maybe Shakira decided to follow Evans back on Instagram.
Someone else joked that once everyone heard that Shakira was single, people started coming out of the woodwork and wondered if they had a chance with her. They posted a photo of the seagulls from Pixar’s Finding Nemo.
If anything, pitting Evans against Cavill for Shakira’s love just might be the Marvel-D.C. crossover film we’ve all been waiting for.
