Festival Nrmal 2016 Announces Massive Lineup

After six successful years, people know that going to Festival Nrmal is a chance to catch outstanding live acts, many of which wouldn’t perform in Mexico otherwise. The organizers carefully curate the lineup every year, and it often consists of an impressive mix of hot new bands and cult legends, with a special emphasis on great Latino acts. The festival is so highly regarded that the early bird tickets for the 2016 edition were gone before the first acts were even announced.

Next year’s installment of the festival, its third in Mexico City, will take place on March 12 and 13 at Deportivo Lomas Altas for the second consecutive year, and the lineup is as exciting and daring as one would expect from Nrmal. Joining the previously-confirmed bands Battles and A Place to Bury Strangers are legendary shogazers Slowdive, Deerhunter, HEALTH, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O., and many, many more. Other surprises include slowcore giants Low, Swedish dream-poppers jj, rapper Cakes Da Killa, and Finnish artist Jaakko Eino Kalevi.

On the Latino side of things, Colombia is present with three great bands: Los Pirañas, Mitú, and Ela Minus; and they’ll share stage with Coiffeur (Argentina), Los Wálters (Puerto Rico), and Föllakzoid (Chile). Darling Empress Of is so hot right now that the organizers just couldn’t leave her out. As for the locals, the list is long and thrilling, with names like San Pedro el Cortés, Lao, Haciendo El Mal, Grenda, and more.

The dancefloor will catch fire with sets from supergroup Future Brown and Mumdance, and things will get extra weird with Mark Fell, Blanck Mass, and Fatima al Qadiri. Once again, Festival Nrmal paired up with the Alliance Française and the Goethe-Institut to bring French artist Pierre Bastien and a German act that’s yet to be announced. Other returning activities include #CocinaCentral, the culinary adventure in collaboration with Comilona, and NODO, the networking platform created to connect artists and people from the music business. More details will be available in January.

The countdown is on! The people from Nrmal are constantly looking to outdo themselves year after year, and this time they might do just that. Check out the full lineup above, and be sure to listen to our Before You Go playlist on Apple Music.
