Jennifer Lopez’s new song “Cambia El Paso,” featuring Rauw Alejandro, dropped this week — and it’s already getting lots of love from fans. As one person tweeted, “Def makes you want to dance, it’s the perfect summer song!”

Lopez talked with Zane Lowe for his latest podcast episode of The Zane Lowe Show over the weekend. During the interview, the singer and actress recalled how this specific collaboration was unexpected. Rauw Alejandro had asked Lopez to collaborate on one of his tracks called “Tu La Tienes,” which has not been released yet. Lopez happily accepted the feature when by sheer coincidence, the two realized that they happened to be in Miami at the same time. Lopez invited him to listen to some of her work. By then, Alejandro was on the way to the airport but still made it work for the two to meet up.

“He came by. I played him the record. He loved it.” Lopez shared, “I said, ‘Let me play you some things I’ve been working on.’ He heard “Cambia El Paso,” and he was like, ‘Well, I can do that one too. Why can’t I get on that one?’”

She continues, “I was like, ‘Ok, but you have to do it right now. Can you do it right now?’ I knew he had a plane waiting. And he’s like, ‘yeah.’ He takes off his jacket, tells his manager, ‘Have the jet wait on the runway.’ And [he] did the record right there!”

Fans can see some of the behind the scenes of the recording in a newly posted video.

Lopez’s team sent along the song to the record company that night of the recording, and soon after, they shot the accompanying video. The video is set to release on Friday (July 9), but Lopez has been dropping teasers on her social media. The quick turnaround process is one that Lopez embraces with open arms.

“I feel like the music industry has changed so much. And when you have a single that resonates with you, you just put it out now,” she said. “There are things that are timely. I just feel like this is a timely record. This is a summer record. This is a dance record. This is a record about changing things. It felt right.”

As for more new music, a new album is already completed and will drop alongside the release of her upcoming movie Marry Me, due out Valentine’s Day 2022.

In the meantime, Lopez shares that she is happy with a capital ‘H.’ “I’m good. I love my life right now. I love what I’m doing. I love where I’m at. I love the person that I am continually kind of evolving into and becoming.” One source of that happiness appears to be her rekindled relationship with former fiance Ben Affleck. The two were photographed over the holiday weekend in the Hamptons, walking arm in arm.

“I want my people who care about me, because I care about them so much, to know that I’ve really gotten to a place in my life where I’m great on my own,” she continued. “And I think once you get to that place, then amazing things happen to you that you never imagine in your life happening again. And so that is where I’m at.”
