Don’t worry, the legend is still here. After Juan Luis Guerra underwent a cardiovascular procedure in Santo Domingo this week, doctors are saying that his surgery was a success. As per the press team at the Cedimat hospital where the merenguero was treated, his surgery was “brief and successful, thank God.” It’s great news for the 62-year-old, who just won two Latin Grammys at the recent awards ceremony.

Juan Luis Guerra is also nominated for the upcoming 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in the “Best Latin Tropical Album” for his latest album, Literal. So fingers crossed for a continued recovery — he may have to step up to the Grammys stage for an acceptance speech come January.

Until then, his manager Amarilys Germán says the singer will be taking a short break from his touring schedule to spend time with family to recover during the holidays. He has full intention to attend the Grammy awards, as well as continue his Literal tour in the new year.

Here’s hoping for his speedy healing. With three Grammy and 23 Latin Grammy awards under his belt over the course of more than three decades in his career, Juan Luis Guerra still isn’t anywhere near being done with leaving his mark on the world.
