The holidays don’t kick off until you hear Mariah Carey’s popular song “All I Want for Christmas is You” just about everywhere.

Although we can listen to Carey anytime we want, we’d like to see her, too. The Grammy Award-winning singer, however, hadn’t made a public appearance in nearly two years – until now. Carey showed up to chat with James Corden on The Late Late Show Thursday night (December 9) and to celebrate Corden’s 1,000th episode of his talk show.

Being the incredible diva that we all know and love, Carey strolled out to meet Corden on stage wearing a stunning, form-fitting gold dress. She could’ve told the audience that she just stepped off the red carpet at the Oscars and it wouldn’t have been a surprise.

After getting an early standing ovation from the audience and lots of compliments from Corden, Carey asked Corden to take a “faux candid” photo with her and pretend not to pose while flashing fake smiles. She then asked Corden what it was like to meet Beatles legend Paul McCartney during one of The Late Late Show’s Carpool Karaoke segments.

“It’s Paul McCartney,” Carey said. “You’re English, dude.”

Corden then thanked Carey for agreeing to be the very first guest on Carpool Karaoke back in 2015. Since then, Corden has welcomed several high-profile guests into his vehicle like Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Katy Perry, Adele, and Jennifer Lopez.

“I don’t think any of us would be sitting here if you hadn’t said yes to Carpool Karaoke before the show had aired,” Corden said. “It’s true.”

Corden also brought up the fact that Carey’s earworm “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” was recently certified Diamond for selling 10 million copies over the last 27 years. It’s the only Christmas song that can claim the honor.

Carey’s fans also got more content from the songstress when her new Christmas special, Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues, premiered earlier this month on AppleTV+.
