Following Ticketmaster Mexico’s ticket fiasco at the Bad Bunny concert last weekend, Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), asked Bad Bunny to perform a free concert at the Zócalo in Mexico City during a press conference on Dec. 14.

During his daily “mañanera,” he opened up by calling Bad Bunny a sympathetic and sensitive person, and mentioned that he’s aware of what he has done for Puerto Rico. AMLO then said: It made us sad to see sad young people not being able to get in[to the show] because their tickets were cloned, because they were scammed. Some were crying; they saved up for a long time to be able to buy their tickets. The truth is that it did make me emotional.”

He said that he has instructed the consumers to act on so that they can get their money back, but that it’s not enough. That’s when he asked El Conejo Malo for help. “I ask Bad Bunny – I know he is busy and tired, because he works a lot. But I ask him to consider the possibility of coming to Mexico, to the Zócalo, I hope he will come,” AMLO said. He then made it clear that the government can’t pay him and says that it would be a “collaborative effort” from Benito’s end.

“It would be very good if all the young people who do not have the possibility to do so, could enter, and thus vindicate [the event]. Because it is not his fault. It is the fault of those who sold the tickets,” he expressed. “But he could make time and contribute. Besides, I am not losing anything by asking, and I know he is a sensitive young man; he has a lot of followers. He is a worldwide phenomenon.”

To wrap up the press conference, he mentions how he knows that the Puerto Rican icon has a social impact, and references the labor Benito has done with Ricky Martin and Calle 13’s René Pérez Joglar (Residente).

Lopez Obrador also pointed out that on Monday (Dec. 19), there will be more information on the lawsuits that have been presented due to the ticket scams. On the lawsuits, he concludes they’re “not enough because many had the excitement of seeing him. So hopefully, something can be done.”
