Last November, on the eve of the election of Donald Trump, New York City’s Nosotros Fest brought together Latinx communities of all backgrounds in the spirit of protest. The festival, a night of music, activism, and performance, was helmed by Alynda Segarra of Hurray for the Riff Raff, who envisioned Nosotros Fest as a platform to celebrate Latinx cultures and center healing, transformation, and empowerment.
Now the festival is gaining new ground with a second edition, this time during the annual Lincoln Center Out of Doors celebration. It boasts a heavenly lineup, featuring beloved indie acts like Xenia Rubinos, Helado Negro, Las Cafeteras, and Hurray for the Riff Raff. Perhaps most notably, Young Lords co-founder Felipe Luciano will recite original poetry alongside spoken word artists La Bruja and Bonafide Rojas. The best part? The event is completely free of charge.
In a time of unbridled xenophobia, forging spaces for Latinx self-expression remains paramount. Nosotros Fest will serve as a testament to generations of Latinx resilience.
Nosotros Fest hits Lincoln Center Out of Doors on July 27 at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the Lincoln Center website.
