Ever since relocating back to Puerto Rico in 2018, Buscabulla has been hard at work making their long-awaited debut album and follow up to their 2017 EP II. Regresa, which features additional production and mixing by Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift, Solange, Blood Orange,) is now finished and is coming out on May 8 via Ribbon Music. And that’s not all: because we’ve been so patient, they’re throwing in a very special short documentary also scheduled to drop sometime in May.

Directed by Chris Gregory-Rivera and Michael Kirby Smith, the Regresa mini-documentary follows Raquel Berrios and Luis Alfredo Del Valle in their journey of moving back from NYC to Puerto Rico, and captures the recording process of the album in their home studio. The stunning visuals also document the convoluted context in which these experiences occurred (the Hurricane Maria aftermath, #RickyRenuncia,) supporting the idea behind Regresa: accepting Puerto Rico with all its flaws.

Featured on the trailer are images of past Buscabulla shows, including their farewell PRIMA NYC show, beautiful landscapes in Adjuntas, Aguadilla, Santa Isabel and Trujillo Alto; local festivities like el Carnaval de Ponce and la Fiesta de los Santos Inocentes, and the preparation and shooting of their fantastic video for single “NTE.” The documentary is set to be a rare window into Buscabulla’s version of Puerto Rico.
