Romeo Santos just surprised his fans by announcing his first-ever performance at New York’s MetLife Stadium, which has a capacity of 82,500. The bachatero took to his Instagram to post a video in which many of his accomplishments were listed – including selling Yankee Stadium out twice, and packing in 55,000 fans in Mexico’s Foro Sol.

The video finds Santos dramatically walking onto the MetLife field, while making his goals known. “This September 21st, I’ll face a new goal: To gather 80,000 people together in one night, in MetLife Stadium,“ the former Aventura lead singer said, in the kind of dramatic tone we’ve come to expect from our favorite Bronx balladeer. “Nothing is written about cowards,” he adds. “Be a part of history.”

And Utopia: The Concert certainly will be historic, as Santos will officially become the first Latino artist to headline MetLife.

Santos’ recently-released album Utopia was a pivot to a more traditional style of bachata, enlisting features from Dominican artists like Raulin Rodriguez, Teodoro Reyes, Zacarías Ferreira, and even reunited Monchy & Alexandria and Aventura.

The surprise guest possibilities are endless on this one.
