Pop superstar Selena Gomez will be honored at the 2020 Hispanic Heritage Awards. She will receive the Arts Award next month.

For the past 33 years, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) has put on the Hispanic Heritage Awards to honor Latinx talent in all fields of entertainment. Gomez, a Mexican-American singer and actress, will receive the first ever Arts Award for her multi-hyphenate career.

“The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is thrilled to recognize Selena Gomez with the Arts Awards for her impact on American and global culture through her music, movies but also for her courage as an advocate for mental health,” said José Antonio Tijerino, president and CEO of HFF, in a statement. “There’s power in vulnerability and Selena has made it okay to talk about difficult issues we all deal with, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Selena is a role model for so many reasons.”

Other honorees so far announced for the 2020 Hispanic Heritage Awards include Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny, who will receive the Vision Award, and Mexican-American actress Jessica Alba, who will receive the Business Award. In this time of COVID-19, the awards will also honor America’s essential farmworkers with the Heroes Award. There are more honorees to be announced.

The Hispanic Heritage Awards will air on PBS on Oct. 6. There will not be a live ceremony, but the show will feature “intimately filmed performances and honoree segments filmed on location across the United States and Latin America.”
