Seu Jorge Will Play His David Bowie Covers on a Tribute Tour This Fall

In tribute to David Bowie’s passing, Brazilian singer Seu Jorge will set out on a U.S. tour this fall for his famed movie soundtrack The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions With Seu Jorge. His character in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou – the melancholic Pelé dos Santos – channeled the soft beauty of David Bowie’s hits. Songs such as “Life on Mars” and “Changes” were translated to his native Portuguese, adding another dimension to the wistful tunes. Even Bowie himself was in awe of the recordings; in the liner notes of the album, he said: “Had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.”

Since his role as Pelé dos Santos, Seu has collaborated with Beck for Red Hot + Rio 2 and performed at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Though the actor/singer has continued his career in music, this will be the first time he tours the acclaimed soundtrack. Shots from Anderson’s film will play on a sail boat-shaped screen during each performance, according to Billboard. Basically: brb, I’m gonna go buy my ticket.
