With live concerts put to a halt (for the most part) because of the Coronavirus, Capital One City Parks Foundation is continuing its SummerStage series online. This week’s programming includes big names in Latin music like Spanish rapper Mala Rodríguez, Brazilian superstar Pabllo Vittar, and Afro-French Cuban duo Ibeyi.

Every year SummerStage typically hosts free concerts and events in New York City throughout the summer. Not missing a beat this year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, SummerStage launched online on July 9. Programming is announced weekly and streamed on SummerStage’s Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch accounts.

SummerStage programming highlights Latin music on Thursdays. This Thursday, July 30, Rodríguez will take over SummerStage’s Instagram account at 5:00 PM EST with a concert from Spain. She is the only female artist to win the Latin Grammy Awards for both Best Urban Album and Best Urban Song.

This coming Friday, July 31 (8 PM EST), SummerStage will host a live Culture Talk across all digital platforms with Nuyorican Richard “Crazy Legs” Colón, one of the pioneers in the hip-hop dance scene. He will be joined by Bronx-born rap legend DJ Grandmaster Caz.

Next week, Vittar, the first drag queen to be nominated for a Latin Grammy, will perform across all of SummerStage’s social media accounts on Aug. 4. That following Thursday, Aug. 6, there will be another Culture Talk with Ibeyi and Brazilian rapper Emicida. Be sure to check out the SummerStage website for their upcoming programming.
