The Internet Is Obsessed With “Gatita” – Here’s What We Know About the Singer

“Una gatita que le gusta el mambo con todos los malos sale a bellaquear” – you’ve been living under a rock if you haven’t heard this catchy tune. From TikTok’s trending sounds to performing at one of Mexico’s biggest reggaeton festivals, the emerging Mexican artist Bellakath is clearly having a moment – and a lot of it has to do with her viral track “Gatita.”

Haven’t heard about “Gatita”? The song by Bellakath, whose real name is Katherinne Huerta, has garnered over 10 million views on YouTube since its release on Oct. 5. On TikTok, the song’s been used on more than 109 thousand videos and is still categorized as one of the app’s “popular” sounds. She currently has 2.3 million followers on TikTok. In addition to this, the track is currently at No. 3 on Spotify Mexico’s Top 50 but reached No. 1 earlier this month.

The TikTok community took the infectious song to another level, making it their own. Social media users started to post themselves dancing to the melody and even created a trend of using it as the soundtrack while drinking a “kittychela” in Mexico City. The latter’s hashtag trend, #kittychela, has over 52.2 million views. Some of the popular users who posted the trending sound include Ms Nina and even reached the Deputy Secretary of Public Security of the Government of Mexico, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja. To put her popularity into context: the song’s even being heard in Qatar.

Fast forward to last weekend, Bellakath performed at Mexico City’s Coca Cola Flow Fest 2022 on Nov. 27. The festival’s headliners that day included Don Omar, Nicky Jam, and El Alfa. “Que perro that at a festival where Don Omar, Arcángel and J Balvin are playing, what’s heard and hyped up the most is ‘Gatita’ by Bellakath #FlowFest,” Remezcla’s music editor Alexis Hodoyán-Gastélum, who was in attendance, wrote on Twitter.

After the performance, the rising 25-year-old artist expressed on Instagram how she didn’t see an end to her fans, who she calls mi gente bellaka. She also wrote she’s eternally grateful for them and shared she was left speechless by the crowd.

Bellakath is currently teasing her upcoming album Flow Fino and will then work on a new album right after. Her recent releases include “FLOW CALLE” featuring Razieel, Brayan Morales, and Alexito Mix, and “SONIDO BELLAKO” with Alexito Mix. Other popular singles include “CUMBIATRONIK,” “LA GATA DE LA AGRICOLA ORIENTAL REMIX” with Kery, and “BWS REMIX” with Alfa Mb, Matt Vargas, Dj Yaso, & Alexito Mix.

Before this viral hit, Bellakath was a contestant on the popular dating show Enamorándonos from 2018 to 2019, where she participated with her sister. She continued her public figure career as an influencer and eventually created Bellakath. She also reportedly graduated with a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de México.
