Vico C – one of The godfathers of rap en español, and a forefather of reggaeton – is currently in a hospital in Ponce, Primera Hora reports.

Sources say the 47-year-old rapper finished his performance at Saturday’s Festival del Güiro in Peñuelas, and began feeling very ill shortly thereafter. He was then taken to San Cristóbal hospital. There is currently no word on a diagnosis.

According to his wife’s Instagram post from earlier on Friday night, aside from his performance at the festival, the two also celebrated their anniversary over the weekend.

Vico C is one of The godfathers of música urbana, and a key figure in the creation of reggaeton. He began his career alongside DJ Negro, and the duo were responsible for early rap en español hits like “Viernes 13,” among others. His work in hip-hop is cited by many influential reggaetoneros as a major influence on their careers.

Update: Vico C is out of ICU, and has been placed in observation, Primera Hora reports. The rapper’s wife, Sonia Torres spoke to the outlet: “Doctors kept Vico C in a medically-induced coma for 24 hours while they ran tests on him to find out why he was having convulsions,” she said. “According to the doctors at San Cristobal hospital, it was an allergic reaction to pain medication,” she continued, adding that she believes all his fan’s prayers and well-wishes aided in his speedy recovery.
